LAUNCH Final Online Event

Propelling the Sustainable Energy Finance market in Europe

This online event will mark the conclusion of the LAUNCH project and will show how this has led to PROPEL and the creation of the Sustainable Energy Finance Association.

Overview

The scattered and fragmented nature of the energy efficiency market, with many small-scale projects being implemented using multiple technologies across different types of clients (e.g. offices, hospitals, schools, etc.), makes mainstreaming EE finance challenging. Long term and consistent support for aggregation and standardisation is key, yet the existing fractured and disorganised set of support tools and materials are insufficient to meet the needs of the EE market, and indeed threaten the European Commission’s own objectives concerning its energy and climate objectives.

The consortium members are establishing a single, holistic resource entity in Europe, the Sustainable Energy Finance Association (SEFA), which will include the critical collateral and process resources required to develop, sell, contract and finance energy efficiency projects at the scale and speed required. SEFA will provide long-lasting, continuous stimulus to the growth of Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) and SMEs who still struggle to get their energy efficiency projects financed.

This session is designed for all stakeholders across the sustainable energy finance value chain: EU and national policy makers, public and private clients, industry representatives, financial institutions, and sustainable energy professional stakeholders.

Through presentations and interactive discussions, this session will describe the impact that consistent and long-term engagement and education concerning project aggregation, contract development and standardised risk assessment can have on the energy efficiency sector.

The event

The event will be divided into 2 panel discussions, each focusing on one of two key stakeholders: project developers and investors. Each panel will host around 5 speakers that will share their experiences in the market and with the LAUNCH project.

Some of the topics discussed will be challenges and opportunities of the European Sustainable Energy Finance market today, Financial and contractual aspects of sustainable energy project financing and commercial strategies for project developers.

The consortium members will present experiences from their work on enabling financing of energy efficiency projects, and experts from the European Commission and the European Investment Bank will share insights into the EU market needs and what is being done to overcome the existing challenges to energy efficiency financing.

This online event will be a great platform to exchange and learn from market players and get interesting insights on the sustainable energy finance market. It will also show the results achieved by the LAUNCH project and how this has led to the PROPEL project and the creation of SEFA, the Sustainable Energy Finance Association.
